What is Kinesiology?

Kinesiology (pronounced Kin-easy-ology) is a holistic natural therapy which combines theories and knowledge from modalities such as Chiropractics, Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Physiotherapy, Naturopathy, Nutrition and Counseling. This enables the Kinesiologist to evaluate and balance the emotional, bio-chemical and physical sides of a person as a ‘whole’.

Using gentle manual muscle testing, the Kinesiologist receives biofeedback, via messages to and from the brain to the limbs, to identify any imbalances or blockages in the body’s emotional, bio-chemical or structural energy systems. These energies are linked to all muscles, tissues and organs in the body and therefore any imbalances can impact their function.

Imbalances in the energy systems can be caused by emotional trauma, injury, stress and nutrition. Kinesiology uses non-invasive manual and non-manual techniques like acupressure massage, light touch and dietary changes to restore the natural energy flow in the body and reduce stress. This aids the body’s natural healing process and releases the untapped potential of a person to reach their specified goals.

Why choose Kinesiology?

Kinesiology follows a holistic approach of looking at the emotional, bio-chemical and physical sides of a person as a ‘whole’. This distinguishes Kinesiology from many other modalities. Advantages of Kinesiology include:

  • It generally works fast and effective with long lasting results (3 sessions are needed on average)
  • It helps your body to heal itself
  • It uncovers and addresses the underlying cause of a problem (e.g. emotional stress can cause physical pain – by addressing the emotional stress, the physical pain can be resolved).
  • It releases your untapped potential to reach your goals
  • It is safe, caring and non-invasive
  • It improves your quality of life
  • It can be used on people and animals of all ages

What can Kinesiology help with?

Kinesiology combines Western techniques with Eastern wisdom to promote physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. The following list is an example of what Kinesiology can help with:

  • Emotional and mental stress
  • Pain, posture, flexibility, injuries, balance and sports performance
  • Allergies and food sensitivities
  • Food and supplement testing
  • Setting and achieving goals
  • Fatigue
  • Digestive problems
  • Learning difficulties and brain integration
  • General health and wellbeing
  • Weight loss
  • Fears and phobias

Who can it help?

Kinesiology can help people of all ages including babies and children. It can also help animals. Please note that children under the age of 16 need to be accompanied by an adult.

How many consultations will I need?

We recommend three consultations, but this could be more or less depending on how responsive you are to the kinesiology balances and the state of your health. Due to the holistic approach of Kinesiology, the human body is usually very responsive to kinesiology balances with lasting effects and improvement can often be noticed after the first consultation.

What can you expect during
a Kinesiology consultation at Violet Pear?

Note: Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in (as you will remain clothed) and make sure that you are hydrated for your consultation.

During your first consultation I will request your personal contact details and medical history. We will also discuss various aspects of your life including the problem at hand, what you want to achieve (your goal), lifestyle, your relationship with those around you including family dynamics, work and social life, diet and interests. This is part of the holistic health care approach of Kinesiology where we explore the ‘whole you’ to achieve a healthy mind, body and spirit. This also helps with the biofeedback process.

You can choose whether you want to sit, lie or stand for the kinesiology balance which includes the following steps:

  • Assessment I will do a few checks to make sure that we are getting accurate biofeedback from your brain with muscle testing.
  • Goal setting You will set a goal for the balance (what you want to achieve), I will identify your key emotions and assess your level of life energy and stress around the goal.
  • Evaluation We will create tests and activities related to the goal. This activates the neurology around the goal and aids the balancing process. We will do a muscle assessment by gently moving and applying pressure to certain muscles to identify any imbalances in your energy flow. This is the biofeedback on the goal. We will also check to see if there are any ‘sabotage programmes’ present that are preventing you from achieving your goal and clear them.
  • Balance We will test to see what the priority corrections are to restore the energy flow in your body around the goal and perform these corrections. These are non-invasive manual and non-manual techniques like acupressure massage, light touch and dietary changes.
  • Checking the changes We will check a few things we did before the balance to make sure that these have now been ‘cleared’ or improved after the balance. These include the goal, emotion, level of life energy andstress, pre-tests and pre-activities relating to the goal and imbalances in energy flow. Finally, we will check to see if you need to do any home reinforcement to maintain the balance and if you need a follow up balance.

After a kinesiology balance you may feel relaxed, energised, focused, reduced or no pain, light headed, physical changes or nothing as the energy flows in your body are restored. This may take effect immediately after the balance or it can take a couple of days, depending on the person as everyone is different.
